Default Popularity Contest Poll #18: The Awakening

And here's what we have for the next one. If someone is knew to the board and doesn't know what it is about, we start with a topic (say, wizards) each of us makes our own list of a top 25, the scores get compiled and we see which ones are the most popular.

To remind everyone, please vote for no more than three choices. If you vote for more and you don't correct this by the time the poll is over (in four days), then your votes are nullified by Reed Richards himself. If you made a mistake or just want to change your vote "just because" tell me (preferably via PM) and I will make a note of it (publicly, so everyone can see). That means there's a chance what you see on the poll won't accurately match what is going on, so keep your eye on this post so you don't complain about how confusing it is later, except you will because you don't read posts).

The potential topics and hosts are as follows

Top 50 Dinosaurs - Octopus Prime
Top 50 Ghosts - Johnny Unusual
Top 50 Horror Movies - Adrenaline
Top 50 Horses - Rivers
Top 50 Mecha- Kirin
Top 50 NPCs in Video Games - WildcatJF
Top 50 Numbers - Bulgakov
Top 50 Pop Culture Cars - Thornghost
Top 50 Saddest Songs - Falselogic
Top 50 Toys and Toylines - Dracula

Anyway, since I am obsessed with doing things seasonally when I can I voted for Ghosts (also because I'm hosting it), Horror Movies and Dinosaurs, because they are like real world monsters. I don't care if it is a stretch, I'll take what I can get.

Yeah, he made such a great pitch that I feel bad about not voting for toys this time around. But I'll definitely be voting for them after this round assuming he keeps submitting/it doesn't win (aside from being a great topic, it is perfect for the approaching Christmas season).

I voted for Toys, Ghosts and Saddest Songs. The horror movie one looked interesting, but I could only vote for 3 so...

Speaking of people's pitches, how about if the first post actually links to them?

Uhh, with the exception of Dracula, everyone else's "pitches" were pretty much just the list name in bold.

Ah, Toyfare, how I miss you... unless I go back and am reminded that its full of sexist jokes. I mean, if it's anything like Wizard.

BTW, Hazama Kuro voted for six things. Please eliminate three or your votes don't count.

Man, if Dracula doesn't win, I am going to be crushed.

OTOH, if he loses and has to keep making more of these for subsequent polls...

If horror movies doesn't win in the October poll, I hope people don't hold the time of year against it the next time I submit it!

Will do Mr. Billboard. But since toys may well win, I'm going to consider that an early Christmas-themed list. And NONE OF YOU CAN STOP ME!

For those concerned about seasonal appropriateness, I will point out that a vote for toys is literally a vote for Dracula. Seems like Halloween to me!

And I've often considered Dracula to be the Santa Claus of Halloween

So it all works!

Tim Burton believes otherwise. But he also made bad Alice in Wonderland and Planet of the Apes movies, so you can reject his opinion.

Also, does this make Frankenstein, Frosty?

Well, there will be toys and word balloons.

Factoid: I received ToyFare magazine in my mailbox from probably 1997 until sometime in the early 2000s. Their photo comics were inspirational to me in such a way that I tried to make my own using my dad's old Olympus SLR. After getting the film developed, my plan was probably to cut word balloons out of paper and glue them to the photos. I never got that far because my photos were all awful and out of focus.

When I got a digital camera sometime in high school, taking toy pics was basically the first thing I did with it. Fortunately, what I took from ToyFare wasn't "wouldn't it be funny if your toys were swearing a bad cuss!!!"

I took a stab at toy-photo-comics once long ago. A very short stab, because I have no follow-through on many projects. Should maybe give it another shot someday, especially since I've been taking G1 Transformer shots for my retro closet blog anyway...
