It's interesting that we still haven't seen the sequel - Lucas was cool with Brooks doing what he wanted as long as (ironically enough) he didn't interfere with SW's merchandising business. And he's gone on record as loving the movie.

Would Disney be as permissive now? I don't know....

What I have heard is that Mel Brooks didn't want to do it without Rick Moranis.

Which makes sense.

Moranis has done the occasional VA work after his wife's death; it might actually make sense to do it as an animated movie (or, hell, just do Helmet as a CGI character now).

Hollywood Reporter is now saying this morning that news of Miller and Lord's departure from the movie was greeted with wild applause by the crew, that they'd hired an acting coach for Ehrenreich because they thought the directors weren't getting a good enough performance out of him, all sorts of shit hitting the fan.

Insert Zandig "Jeeeazus" gif here.

[First article I've seen that explicitly mentions that they could wind up back on the Flash movie, which has burned through two or three directors since they left in the first place.]

For a second I thought there was going to be a new Flash Gordon movie but then I was disappointed when I figured out what you really meant.

I was surprised about the acting coach part since Ehrenreich was THE highlight from Hail, Caesar! for me.

I feel like the biggest dummy that 1) I didn't make this joke and 2) I can't believe I didn't even think of this scene after referencing Hail, Caesar!

I guess I was too busy thinking of him idly doing rope tricks while waiting around for the Carmen Miranda equivalent.

They couldn't do a Flash Gordon movie these days. Not without Queen, anyway.
