A super metroid remake would be legitimately heartbreaking.

Remaking Metroid II makes sense because the original is really really boring and hard to play. Might've been fun in the 80s, I wouldn't know unfortunately.

I've asked this before, but these extra dungeons are totally optional right? Otherwise CTDS is just the same game as the SNES but [slightly] scaled down and portable?

I'd rather they remade Super Metroid instead of just remaking previous games to become Super Metroid

It was super fun when it came out, at least for me. I replayed it recently and still enjoy it, but hindsight being 20/20 I don't have as much fun with it as I did when I was 11.

Yeah. The new side dungeons are completely skippable, and I'm not aware of any changes to the main game, other than the addition of the map on the bottom screen.

Well, the translation is completely different (and considerably more lifeless, in my opinion).

And they changed the sound effect of Frogs water magic. Which is unforgiveable.

Okay, okay, we get it: you want Super Metroid, untouched, with full voice acting.

I got hold of it from a friend after I had played Super Metroid. I thought it was fine, if not nearly as engaging or interesting. I got stuck toward the end of it and got frustrated enough to stop playing. I never finished it and I'm struggling to come up with many memories of it. In fact, I remember so little of Metroid 2 that I may as well have not played it; Samus Returns is probably going to become my definitive version of the game.

Speaking of, I just got my copy in the mail! Going to start in on it tonight.

Metroid II scared the pants off of me. IDK where you guys are coming from. I also imprinted on the baby Metroid so hard, I referred to my cat as a baby Metroid for a while after wards

Metroid II is the best Metroid, which is why I'm being such a huge miser in this thread about this game. I know there are others who like Metroid II and think this was a superb remake, but their priorities likely differ from mine. I think Samus Returns will appeal to most people just fine.

I like Metroid II and don't like this remake, but

I can't get on board with that. As much as I like Metroid II - had it and enjoyed it when I was a kid and I've beaten it on 3DS twice and enjoyed myself - I think Super, Zero Mission, and Fusion are better.

It wasn't a challenge to anyone's tastes. I'm fully aware it's not a common position. Metroid II exemplifies design, tone and specifics that aren't usually shared by the rest of the series, which are content to build and iterate on each other—the contrast is the reason why it remains valuable and interesting to this day. I'm not really into the narrative that it was in need of a remake, even if it had turned out more personally satisfying than Samus Returns.

I don't like Zero Mission either, so I guess that's tantamount to being a Metroid pariah.

The great thing about all the crud TOSE added to their Square Super NES RPG remakes is that it was entirely optional! (And the FFIV Advance stuff was legitimately wonderful.)

Is that when they added the Cave of Ordeals?

A place filled with all those bats, the absolute worst enemy type in the game that isn't a Toad Lady?

It's where they let you take any party you want to the Moon and gave Cid a quest that involves playing Crazy Taxi in his airship. Like, I don't know what else you could want, man.

The purest Metroid fan is the one who picks a single one of the first three Metroid games and declares it the only good video game that has ever existed. Also uses metaphors about slaps in faces.

Does this statement count Zero Mission as one of the first three?
