Yeah, I've been playing it a bit today. It's really charming! I've been enjoying it a lot.

Played around with Mei and D'Va, and while I like them, I'm not very good with them yet...!

I've recently been informed that this is just a shooter instead of a shooter-moba hybrid, causing me to spontaneously become interested even though I don't think I have room in my life for more than one shooter and I don't expect to give up Splatoon soon.

Beta players, is there a practice mode available?

There is! You can select the number of AI to go up against, their difficulty, and what map. I don't know if you can practice at mission objectives, since the one I tried seemed to just be straight deathmatch, but it still lets you practice and get a feel for each character.

And I officially Cannot Run This. Which is surprising, I figured I'd be able to run it but it'd be too choppy to bother. Shame.

With a few more games under my belt, I think the characters are marvelously well-balanced. Some are more situational than others, but I don't think there's any character who's worthless or ineffective. Some definitely have a higher skill ceiling than others - Widowmaker and Tracer most notably.

One interesting difference from TF2 - there's no spy character. There's nothing even remotely like one. I think that's a good choice.

It seems pretty cool, though learning the maps will take some doing.

I'm having fun! I'm also having serious doubts that this will be worth my $60.

That's my problem. I'd play the hell out of this as a F2P. As $60? ... Eh?

Especially since they haven't solved the biggest problem of TF2 - half your team going sniper and spending the whole match padding their kills.

On offense.

Isn't it to be $40, with the $60 version being some else on top of it?

Yeah, but then they don't win. And with no progression or grind (at least, so far), that's a tactic that does nothing for them. TF2 at least has mechanics in it that support just killing enemies over completing objectives.

Only on PC, but yeah.

That doesn't seem to deter them.

The skill with which this was designed oozes from every pore. I like Winston, and so I play as him. No one else wants to tank, so I keep playing as him.

Winston's weapon has very short range. His special ability drops a static shield on the ground. His cooldown is a charge/jump. His ultimate turns him into a melee monster with sick knockback.

At some point it occurred to me that Winston's goal is not to kill the other team or simply absorb damage. His specialty is area denial, hence his weakness against snipers and reliance on mobile teammates (which even the trailer focused on). I stopped playing like the Heavy and started playing like E. Honda and damn, I did better.

I like this game! Still not worth $40.

Yeah, I think this is the thing I need to get better with with Mei, since her primary is really short range and is essentially a channeled DoT+slow, with a relatively expensive ranged secondary fire mode. The wall special and the blizzard ult are clearly meant to redirect enemies (since the beta maps have so many different routes) and lock down areas.

Yeah, the game seems really dope and I understand + agree with not wanting to go ftp, but I don't know if I'll end up spending 40 bucks on it. I think part of the idea is that with the console release and the pc price tag they're expecting it to draw in people who're fine with buying the cod/battlefield game every year. This game may have too many colors for them though.

I think that a healthy multiplayer experience is worth paying for, even though the biggest tributary factor in multiplayer health is the size of the player base, which will be much larger if it's F2P. That said, I'd at least want to try a demo and ensure I have a reliable community to join before putting any scratch down on this (few games are worth playing with randos).

Between one blizzard game (Heroes) and one team shooter-esque game (Gigantic) I think I will pointedly Not Play This for quite a while if ever. It looks neat, though.

S'okay. A lot of folks, while not keen on the game itself, are eagerly awaiting the extra media that will support it, comics and cinematics, etc.

Yeah, half of me wants to get Overwatch just because I love the cast so much. Everything's so much brighter and more colorful than 90s-era grimdark Blizzard. I need Zarya in my life.

Supposedly there's going to be an Open Beta at some point. Does that mean anyone will get to try the game, or only those who bought it?

EDIT: Found it. Pre-order folks get first crack, but everyone will get to play for free for a few days.

New patch. Big change is now Mei's icicle arcs instead of straight spike of doom. Also her primary freeze acts faster.

Both of these are most welcome.

Also a new poster popped up on the Hollywood map. Possible nod to next HotS crossover?

Couple more screenshots.

This is from inside the jumpship used as the attack spawn on several maps.

I paid for the origins edition because I love everything about this. I just wish I could try it beforehand.

I think the problem they're encountering with these shorts is that you can't really make a Pixar-esque franchise about shooting robots with guns.
