I wouldn't call the new Arcade Fire rubbish but it has more than zero bad songs, which is unusual for them.

I'd say half the album is bad songs, and the other half is middling at best.

Man, you weren't kidding. I didn't like Reflektor as a whole either, but at least that had the title track and "Afterlife", the only thing on this one I would say is decent is "We Don't Deserve Love" and maybe the title track.

The only Arcade Fire song I've ever really liked is "No Cars Go", so I'm not exactly the right person to judge, but a cursory listen of the new album sounds like a group of people trying to mimic some late 80s and early 90s David Bowie and being quite bad at it.

Solid album. It's no Vitalogy but they can't all be perfect.

I was never really into no cars go actually, but I did like several of neon bible's songs.

Hey did you know that no cars go turns 10 years old on sunday

The single was released ten years ago but a version of the song was on their 2003 EP.

Apparently what I look for out of The Arcade Fire, and what literally everyone else who posts here looks for, are entirely different things.

We got a classical guitar remix of the Hang-On theme today on the smooth jazz station:

Also check out this cool relaxing remix of Battletoads:

I'm still a bit more interested in Sonic Mania, though.

As we were driving to the cottage on Satuday, my girlfriend asked me to put on a song by Cake. I decided to go for one of my old favorites, "Hem of Your Garment". It's really good!

Except! When I started playing it from Apple Music, this wasn't the version of the song that I got! It seems like Cake rereleased some of their albums a few years back and, for some reason that I fail to comprehend, they totally remixed this song. The guitar sounds different, the arrangement has changed and the whole thing just isn't satisfying. What's with the George Lucas treatment? Nobody wants your specialized edition, Cake! The new version doesn't seem to be on YouTube right now, so I can't show it here, but if you have a subscription to a streaming music service then chances are that's the one you'll get if you look it up. Very disappointing, good thing I have the original at home.

It wasn't quite that much of an overhaul but Marilyn Manson released a slightly different version of "The Beautiful People" on the Lest We Forget collection that isn't nearly as good as the version on Antichrist Superstar. Specifically, they increased some of the ambient noise and the creepy keyboard sound after each collection of verses, before the pre-chorus, was changed to this kind of electronic wailing and it is god awful.

The new version irks the shit out of me every time I hear it.

Sonically, Forced Witness is a superb throwback pop record. But while I appreciate Alex Cameron's commitment to the bit, I'm still trying to decide whether ironically having every song being from the PoV of an absolute scumbag heightens or diminishes the album.

Yeah I'm right there with you. I've been listening all week and I love the music but it's hard to get behind the sentiment.

Speaking of Cameron, I stumbled upon this today and it's the most amazingly stupid song I've ever heard. Stick around to 2:30 at least, it's mind-meltingly good bad something.

I don't even read this thread, but Loki put a gun tweet to my head and told me I should come tell you all that one is kind of amazing. I'd seen the bit from the middle out of context earlier, but somehow the whole thing is even better.

If I were to guess based on his whole shtick, it could be a riff on '80s hits like "Don't You Want Me" that are smooth and catchy, but pretty despicable lyrically.

I've never heard of this guy, that song is pretty great (as is the video).

The new St. Vincent album sounds like the culmination of everything she’s been doing since ‘07 or so.

And naturally it sounds like the culmination of everything I want music to be. It’s good.

It really does! "New York" could be right off her first album, but "Los Ageless" could be off her fourth. It's sort of ironic that it was her previous album to get the self-titled treatment, owing to it "sounding like herself", because MASSEDUCTION has a much better claim.

I've only listened to it a couple times but I'm really liking it.

Ooh, I have to check that out! Thanks for the heads up.

I heard this on the radio today and loved it. Waltz after Lasse in Lyby by the Danish String Quartet. Lovely and earnest.
