Same. This game always looked kinda shit to me, but dang if that fake Wonder Boy-ass cover isn't laser-targeted straight at me.

I enjoyed the Spelunker Party demo and would like to play more, BUT there were various parts in each stage that required multiple players to get every item. I canít imagine always, or even often, having multiple players and those missed items are the kinda thing that would drive a man mad!

I enjoyed my time with Retro City Rampage actually. I don't think I'm going to double-dip, though. GOG is enough for me.

And yes, when is Shakedown: Hawaii supposed to drop?

I just tried playing Pokken with just a single joycon and it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. The little slide things that go on them weren't an issue to get on or off either, once I realized they are semi-reversible anyway.

(Also I pulled out and used my Switch at work but sssshhhh.)

How hard is it? Suitable for casual messing about by non-gamers, or more for platforming fans?

It did not seem particularly challenging to me. Your character moves a little slowly, a brisk walking pace, and has a specific arc to their jump. It wasnít fast twitch action, rather just requiring a knowledge of what your spelunker is capable of and using that to handle each situation. There is a rather quick timer between each checkpoint, which are not spaced very far apart, but it can be reset by touching any checkpoint, including the one you just came from.

Just found out ICEY is coming to Switch. This is pretty exciting, I've been eyeing that game for some time and I'll probably use this as an excuse to get it.

It's adorable but a bit rough around the edges. It can be hard to move precisely but the game often demands it. If the quick travel hub is to be believed, I've made it around halfway through the game in... less than three hours, I'd say.

It may not be as kid-friendly as it first looks; there is a small bit of casual swearing I've seen so far, not to mention the occasional philosophical NPC musing on the threat of violence that underpins even the most nobly-used power and so on. One of the three enemy designs I've seen so far was legit unsettling.

It is adorable as heck, though.

That sounds like exactly the sort of thing kids ought to hear.

Yono update:

The philosophy talk continues unabated. To be clear, the actual dialog is very brisk and clear, just... contemplative.

I am now a baby elephant painted like Darth Maul.

One must decide for themselves if these are pros or cons.

Sounds kid-friendly enough to me. Let us know when Yono starts shooting heroin and pole dancing to work his way through med school.

Hey, I got one of these machines last week! It is both smaller and better than I had imagined, and I've been exclusively using it in handheld mode. Gonna plug it into a monitor tonight and test out the puppycon and joycon clips though.

I picked it up with BotW, but I've really quickly got burned out with it. I think after so (SO) much time with Witcher 3 when I was unemployed a few years ago made open worlds a bit tiring, especially when they're this open. The Witcher was very generous with weapon durabilty and enemy variety. Still, what a game!

So I have Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 on the way for more short-burst gratifications, and Odyssey is on the way.

This is such a good console! My code is 5016-6696-9113, if you're asking...

Elliot Quest is out tomorrow.

Iíve already bought the game twice, once to be portable despite the fact that the 3DS Port is a buggy mess that is literally not possible to complete (game freezes up and forces a hard-reboot or the system when you get the item in the final area).

But Iím going to wind up buying this a third time, arenít I?

It also adds the ability to save the last 30 seconds as video when you hold the share button in some games (I've heard Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8, ARMS, and Splatoon 2).

So Amelia N. is becoming this system's Nikki, huh?

I love the updates though. Looks like they're using the rewind feature tech from the SNES Classic (probably something to do with recording framebuffers?) but using it as a way to capture snippets. It's systemwide in a sense that it's on a firmware level, but devs still need to selectively integrate it into their software (since some publishers/companies don't want to spoil significant plot content of their games).

Seven months in and the eShop presentation is still garbage. They really need to start curating games beyond "here's the new ones."
