Listening to The Book of Sounds. Hm. Hans Otte's music sounds like Satie's and may be better.

I want to argue and say that Pinkerton is better, but if I'm really being honest with myself, I know you're right.

Also, you guys ever heard any bootleg stuff from the Let It Be sessions? I recall there being a full 15 minute version of 'Dig It' that I enjoyed quite a bit, since it's just a sloppy jam where they start singing lyrics to other songs, but it is ruined by Yoko doing her vocal thang at some points.

Stephen Egerton (Guitarist of the Descendents and ALL) released a solo album, with every track featuring a different lead singer. It's insanely great and a good holdover until Descendents/ALL someday make a new album.

"Sunny Disposition" sounds like something that could have easily been on Allroy's Revenge. It sounds so good.

It's really good! Are there any of their albums I should actively seek out next and/or any that aren't worth my time?
I have their last four albums, and In Absentia and Deadwing are my two favorites.

Much like Pendulum's other albums, Immersion has a bunch of really great songs (The Fountain is currently on high rotation on my iPod) and a bunch of filler (Comprachicos is Pendulum trying to be a metal band for two minutes). The trick, though, is that some of the stuff that seems like filler (for instance, Witchcraft and Encoder) ends up clicking later. I was like this with Showdown on In Silico.

I feel like I got my money's worth, anyway.

This is probably what you're referring to, though it's not the full version (despite what the YouTube description says) -- the first four minutes or so are missing. The whole thing lasted about twelve and a half minutes, and quoted from "Twist and Shout" a bit at first (and also "Like a Rolling Stone" later on).

This is also the recording where the Let It Be version of "Dig It" was taken from -- except for the "That was 'Can you dig it?' by Georgie Wood" part, which came from the first recording of "Dig It" -- though obviously it was only a snippet. There were only two recordings of "Dig It" ever made (this was the second), and apparently the first was just John singing "Can you dig it?" over and over and over.

I've never met another person that likes (or for that matter, has even heard of) Nero's Day at Disneyland. Most people I introduce it to tend to back away from me slowly while avoiding eye contact. I swear it's good; am I crazy?

Is there a reason why Spoon's new album is considered not as good? I'm liking it fine.

Well, it's a lot jammier and less immediately catchy than Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, so that's probably a big part of it. What I found most interesting about it was the way that it essentially mixes up the styles/moods of their previous albums in new ways. People say that every Spoon album sounds the same, but I think that's ridiculous.

I've been listening to Paramore, and it's kind of a guilty pleasure, but I just can't stop. I hope I'm not the only one.

I find Paramore a pleasure, and I'm not guilty about it at all.

Re: Paramore

I almost made a pleasure joke, but decided against it. Their bigest hits are pretty good, though, I didn't like the new CD much.

Okay, on to real music, been listening to Budgie some more. Yeah, they're the best band that was missing that something that would have made them superstars. Though all their covers are pretty good.

I don't think anyone would consider them a guilty pleasure if they had a male singer, actually.

So after rediscovering one of my favorite bands The Unicorns (who I had somehow forgotten about since my hard drive imploded last year), I finally got around to listening to the project the 2/3rds of The Unicorns went on to create, Islands.

It's very indie-sounding, which is appropriate given that a bunch of other indie artists guest on the album. But it's exciting; it's like The Unicorns grew up and got their shit together. Rather than making wacky and eccentric stuff like I Was Born a Unicorn and Jellybones (which I still love to death, mind you), they settled down and made more complex and richer sounding things like Tender Torture and Switched On. It's great. It's like meeting a friend I never knew I had. The album dabbles in all kinds of genres, while staying firmly rooted in indie territory. I can't recommend it enough.

I also downloaded their first album (evidently their second is universally considered rubbish) and am about to put it on. I am excited!

Islands' Return to the Sea is rad in almost every way. It's more playful than whatever their second album is called.

The concept is loosely about the apocalypse and their weird cynical/wide-eyed naive take on the end of the world is right in line with the stuff on Who Will Cut Our Hair When We Die? There's a prog song, a love song with cannibalism double entendres, a calypso song, an amazing hip-hop cameo from Busdriver--it's just a bunch of stuff crammed together that works for reasons I can't explain. I love it.

Return To The Sea is pretty rad, to the point that not only do I think it's head and shoulders above their other two albums, but I also like it more than Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?.

The first half of NB is really good, but I can't say I like much after 'Ocean of Noise', except for 'No Cars Go'.

I very much appreciate the maturity in all of Neon Bible's songs. Sometimes, I even think that it's better than Funeral.

When I actually listened to it, I realized what was weird about (Antichrist Television Blues) - it is 100% a Bruce Springsteen song.

Bought New Pornographers' Together and The Kings of Leon's Only By The Night the other day.

Together: Good, and really great at times, but damn is it all over the place compositionally. That's not a black mark with me, but it does disrupt the flow of the album pretty substantially.

Only By The Night: Really well done standard rock that apes so much from Nirvana and RHCP it's ridiculous. It's good, but how did it win a Grammy, and for the second or third best track on the disc no less?

What does Reznor's new band sound like?

I'm going through the standard "I'm sick of hearing 90 takes of my own music" phase in the studio. Nobody else can feel this way yet
