Yesterday I discovered the band HEALTH and I think I kind of like it a lot. Warning: weird-ass videos

HOLY SHIT JEFF ROSENSTOCK HAS A NEW ALBUM!!1

It's pretty great!

I don't think I like it quite as much as We Cool, but I'm DEEPLY BIASED on how good We Cool is

But yeah! Go and download it cuz it's free

And then buy it cuz it's good.

I don't know I know it's dumb garbage but can we talk about "Invader Invader" by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu? It's fucking incredible.

It's a week's worth of music crammed into 4 minutes and 11 seconds.

It shouldn't work at all but somehow it hangs together and it's gorgeous and insane.

If dude did a Song Exploder episode on it, it would be nine hours long.

Jean-Jacques Perrey died yesterday.

This album in particular has brought me a whole lot of joy for a whole lot of years, so I'm a little bummed.

So Justice has a new album out on Friday, and there's three songs on their Youtube account. Alakazam and Randy sound like "typical" Justice songs; in other words, they're good but they remind me of the songs that I usually skip on their other albums to get to the real meaty tracks.

Safe and Sound, however, is sweeeet

New Tribe Called Quest is the bomb. It fits in pretty seamlessly with their classic albums while still feeling like its own new thing.

Despite being a big fan of stuff from the 70s, I've somehow never ran across this until now:

This is like, my ideal music.

Sparks are pretty awesome and creative in general. They're still going strong in their old age, and just released a great collaborative album with Franz Ferdinand last year (and if that turns you off, it sounds way more like Sparks than it does FF).

I'm on my second listen right now. It thoroughly sounds like Justice. At the moment I like it better than the first album but not as much as the second one, but it doesn't really hit the highs of either one. "Fire" has some killer Wurlitzer and seems like the sleeper track to me.

Been feeling down recently given recent events, and realized I hadn't listened to any Queen music in forever so I slapped their studio discography (I, uh, might also own most of their live albums too) onto my phone and have been listening to an album or two at once. My mood improved roughly 50% at once, and I wondered why I didn't hear much of them on classic rock radio stations (what I listen to in my car). Turns out most of their songs except the big ballads rarely escape the 3 minute mark, so they're too short for regular radioplay, which is built around playlists filled with 3-4 minute songs.

Listening to my old cassette of Dark Side of the Moon and really enjoying the parts where the tape garbles and turns into a reversed version of the other side. I honestly missed that.

Brian Eno released a new album on New Year's Day. While I wouldn't say it's his best work, I do think it hems closest to his original aims with the genre: music to give space and think. Fans of Eno or ambient ought to give it a listen.

He also released it in app form as a "generative version" that gives potentially infinite music, but I'm not ponying up $55 for that!

And it's a very happy birthday to Keith Shocklee, of the legendary Bomb Squad.

I have it on good authority that he played it left hand but made it too far.

Station to Station and Low are also excellent albums.
