Undo dog is a very good doggo, and a very good vote.

Who's a good vote?

Is it you?

I didn't vote for Undo Dog (probably because when I made my list, I had the weird misconception that this list was only for Mario enemies, and Undo Dog is no one's enemy), but I played enough Mario Paint as a kid that I associate any sort of Ctrl + Z maneuver with a little doggie face.

*EENK*

Also Koopa Troopas are good. They were one of the only basic Mario enemies I couldn't draw as a kid, though, so they were not on my list.

Syrup was on my list! Undo dog wasn't, but that's mainly because I see Mario Paint and Mario Maker as being part of the same series as the GB Camera software, not the Mario series. I know, even though the name is right there. May as well vote Isabelle because she's in Mario Kart now (I did not vote for Isabelle either).

Captain Syrup is awesome. I wish I'd thought of Undo Dog.

I forgot about Syrup.

Just like Nintendo has consistently for 17 years.

Yeah, but she lost her final boss status and was just the shopkeeper.

Bit of a step down from flying around in a skull spaceships she stole from Dr. Wily.

Which I don't mean in the usual derogatory sense. I mean I suspect she literally pilfered it from the Skull Fortress while Wily was sleeping.

Explaining Doopliss 4 Kiddos:

Doopliss is a minor recurring antagonist in Paper Mario: The Best One. When he first shows up, Mario and co. solidly trounce him, despite him doing his own best Mario impersonation. You don't even know his name at that point.

After they beat him up, Mario and co. go merrily on their way, leaving the camera behind to focus on this shade in Mario's shape, which you now play as. Turns out that weird sheet ghost is a bodysnatcher who has kursed you, and now you are a nameless shadow stuck in the Nightmare Before Christmas.

You attempt to confront him about this, and he says "oh yeah sure buddy I can give you back your body if you can guess my name". This is slightly harder than you might guess, as he has pilfered the letter P from the text entry screen and hidden it in his castle.

After you guess his name, you have another fight with him, except this time your team of dudes is supporting him, on the assumption that you and your new paper buddy are trying to beat Real Mario who is Doopliss.

He then shows up a few more times to be an idiot of no real import.

Captain Syrup is cool.

Those are black mage pants. That frog is a black mage in a game co-developed by Squaresoft, so they gave him stripey black mage pants.

Default I voted for Undo Dog

Undo Dog taught me that many of life's problems can be solved by petting a dog.

Of course, sometimes things become so fucked that there's nothing you can do but hit the rocketship and nuke it all.

#40 Unagi the Eel
First Appearance: Super Mario 64 1996
107 points, 7 nominations

Suffice to say, opinions on Unagi* the Eel are divided. For most, this gentile giant of the sea is nothing more than that. A lovable ol' water puppy, eager for hugs and pets. But for a select few, Unagi is the most terrifying collection of polygons ever assembled. For these poor souls, there's nothing scarier than a tube with eyes. They are not to be shunned, but pitied.

On the other hand, Splatoon 2 has shown us the insidious nature of eels. Did you know that an eel is actually a collection of shower heads that spew slime and is driven by a fish? These are the true facts ZooBooks won't tell you.

*Translator's Note: Unagi means eel.

#39 Lemmy Koopa
First Appearance: Super Mario Bros. 3 1990
116 points, 5 nominations

In the collective clutch of compact Koopa Kids known as the Koopalings, Lemmy is know as "the fun one." He's a crazy kook who's signature move is to bounce on a ball. According to Mariowiki, he's also known as the "Crown Prince of Koopas" which I mean come on. Don't do that.

#38 Big Boo
First Appearance: Super Mario World 1991
122 points, 5 nominations

Big Boo is a boo that is big. He's not the leader of the boos, that's King Boo, who is a different boo, despite most of the votes which voted for Big Boo/King Boo, which made it hard to tabulate votes for Boos. King Boo did not make the list.

Boo.

Big Boo has the distinction of being big. This does not make him any less of a Boo, and is still susceptible to the Boo's Achilles' heel: being looked at. During the fight Mario's more in danger from himself than this rather big Boo, Big Boo.

Bonus: #92 Stanley the Talking Fish
First Appearance: Mario Paint 1992
45 points, 2 nominations

I was impressed that this super obscure character got two votes. Was his high showing due to deeply held nostalgia or simple wiki trolling? Stanley is an annoying fish featured in the first issue of the Nintendo Comics System. He talks and is annoying. He made a couple more appearances including in The Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker or so I imagine.

Is giving muteKi a heart attack against the forum rules?

I want to adopt that Lemmy & King Boo.

Unagi is probably the character I voted for with the least sincerity. My main motivation was to troll muteKi.

I guess that makes me the real monster here.

Honestly his rendition in Mario 64 DS isn't so bad even if his face still has a weird warped melty thing going on. IN Mario 64 though he looks like a cross between a dying balloon animal and the babadook. Also everything Werner Herzog says about chickens but instead taken to be about a species of animal that is literally a tube. https://youtu.be/QhMo4WlBmGM Maybe a sentient tube. Probably not.

No amore for this, uh, moray.

Nostalgia for me. I bought all those Valiant comics as they came out! There was a rack of them at Wowee Zowee, the local independent game store where you could buy a game for all the money or play it right there in the store, $1 for 10 minutes. Imagine if GameStop was specifically designed to be a place where you could dump your kids while you went shopping elsewhere, and that was Wowee Zowee.

I didn't rank Stanley high, but he was also probably the first thing I thought of when we were ranking "Mario characters," so there's that.

Is the joke Koopa, being tortoise-like, is much too slow for a reasonable pizza delivery operation, one that claims under thirty minute delivery to most locations?

I'm assuming it was a Zoda's Revenge reference? I meant to comment on that but forgot to by the time I got home.
