Let me make a controversial statement: commercial Fried Chicken is not chicken. And here's my evidence:

Look, the logic is solid. Most of these fried "chicken" places have a chicken as a mascot, and that mascot is always, always smiling, sometimes even with a piece of chicken in their hand. Would you be willing to happily smile in an ad for a store that quarters, batters and fries your kin? Surely not! So either the industry is full of psycopath cannibal fowls glad to pose for ads promoting the genocide of their species or whatever those places are selling is not really chicken!

(and that's why the Colonel is smiling. He know something you don't. He's part of the conspiracy, people)

So what are they really selling if it's not chicken? Popular belief is that it is a genetically altered life form designed in the lab just for this purpose, but I like the less popular theory that they are superfeed, overgrown frogs - they supposedly taste just like chicken.

Come on, Brain. At least try to come up with an original conspiracy theory instead of one that's been under the heat lamps for too long.

I have no doubt.

Me? On a sandwich, salami should be room temperature.

Me and JBear went to a KFC the other night and the guy who served us was the most delightfully mellow dude I've ever met. He felt like a living comedy sketch character. It was such a weird experience to have him serving me. But I feel like if he was an actual restaurant owner, it would feel less strange. Like that you expect a little bit of eccentricity from a head chef rather than a cog in a fast food chain.

I really hope that KFC realizes they've got a treasure with this guy. He's such a cool, quirky dude.

Wasn't it KFC where one franchise was running a massive weed grow op, where you'd get something extra with your order if you asked for extra biscuits?

So I think my joke poll option has become a joke on myself and now I need to get some clarification..

For everyone who chose the "any sandwich" option - does that mean you don't think any of the other items are fried chicken?

Had I not supported none of the above, it's probably the option I would've chosen. We are all Spartacus.

What is or isn't a sandwich is one of the worst memes of the last few years not associated with neo-nazis.

Wait, did you seriously not try their Kick'n Crispy Chicken when it was available?

You poor, poor soul.

I don't go to Swiss Chalet as often as I'd like.

Same, but that was definitely worth leaving the house for -- or calling in delivery.

Of course, it was worthwhile for lasting me a few meals, too.

Dash it all, I just realized I passed up the opportunity to get fried chicken and waffles when I was in Kensington Market yesterday.
