I didn't include REmake but I definitely would say it counts. It's a ground up remake with new art, systems, writing and voice acting. It's only similarity is slightly similar level design and vaguely familiar rooms and enemy encounters.

The real question is: Does Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes count.

…Huh, that's a tough one. I would lean no, because despite the new assets, the content is fundamentally the same; the only real changes it makes are superfluous gameplay elements and new cutscene direction. It's basically an "HD remaster" before its time (uh, and SD).

First person aiming absolutely changes the entire game and how every room can be approached in a significant way.

Mostly by making it a boring tranq-gun shooting gallery that you then walk across. But hey, some people like that?

So I started spreadsheeting today and am very glad I did, as now I can just plug the data from each new list in and then all I have to do is put things in order.

So far it's looking very interesting.

I've decided the honorable mentions will be #1s that didn't make it. Looking so far like mine will be on that list instead of the main one.

I began my list without intending to use a spreadsheet.

Hahahaha.

Yeah, I think this is a good argument in favor of REmake being included.

I was going to wait until the last minute for my list because I've been playing games in anticipation of this list and I thought I might have more to add, but I figured to heck with it. I've got at least two games I need to play because I want to at least have played half the Top 50 and all of the Top 10 and now that I have an idea what the front runners are I know what I need to play. Having written this, I won't be posting in the Like/Gripe threads or updating my completed games until this is all over so that there are no clues anywhere as to what may compose the upper echelons of the final list.

When you compile the data, I hope you include the "highest rank" each game gets (whether or not you track the people who voted it the highest). I always like seeing that statistic, even with the games that don't make it and are only seen in the giant list at the end.

Yeah, I plan to put highest rank and who awarded it in each entry. I'm also going to try to avoid ties by using Metacritic score if the points and number of votes end up tying. If by some weird turn the Metacritic score is also the same, at that point I'll just admit a tie was meant to be, but I'm hoping that doesn't happen. Although if two or more games tie for #50 I'll set all that aside and keep the tie so that a game people voted for doesn't get undeservedly left off the list.

I really think that game should have been subtitled "The Two Snakes".

You're both crazy. I immediately commandeered and adapted a spreadsheet from previous list-runners as soon as I had multiple entires. Anything else would be unthinkably tedious.

Anyway I'm definitely going to submit a list for this but mine isn't done yet and now I'm traveling for a week. I think after that will still come in before the deadline. I've been on planes and in cars all day and can't math.

My longlist has 65 things on it at the moment. I suspect a few will go when I check their release dates but I'll probably think of a few others to add.

With all this talk about muscling our favorite remakes into eligibility, let me just casually remind everyone that AM2R is one of the better remakes and, like Zero Mission, it is inventive enough to meet the strictest standards.

If we're advertising our faves:

Another reminder to vote for Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together for the kids in the back.

Also Onimusha 3 because I wrote my list with the arbitrary rule that I couldn't remove an entry once I put it in and I forgot about that game until like the 20th spot but really it's more like number 6.

I don't think anything on my list is actually too old. And it's honestly not even that comprehensive. But I still sent it in!

I've only got about 30 games on my list right now. The top 15 are more or less a lock (though not quite in order), but it's going to be really hard to choose which of the bottom 15 make the cut.

once i decided i had a certain standard for diversity to reach (which ended up with me cutting all rhythm games and almost all of a few other series from contention) i had no real trouble. there's a pretty staggering gap between stuff i really liked a lot and things that are personally really significant to me

Great news - I've decided I actually can be arsed doing a list for this.
