Last Week Tonight, in their "hey Donald, drop out of the race plz" bit, brought back a slice of my childhood: a paperback I got in a book fair called "The Kid Who Ran for President."

I'm thinking Seth's regular segment bears inclusion.

Fallon is genetically predisposed to bringing a banana to a bazooka fight (think about it) so it's not surprising he's reluctant to challenge others.

I had my doubts, but I think Trevor Noah is getting pretty good at this. While 9/11 was the tragedy that gave Jon Stewart grounding and purpose, it seems Trump will be Trevor's.

I think the writers needed time to get used to his particular rhythms. When he first started the jokes still felt like they were written for Stewart and came off awkward as a result. As time goes on and the show changes it feels more natural. Noah also still has trouble talking about school shootings and police brutality without the show grinding to a halt (which is why I miss The Nightly Show, because Wilmore nailed that stuff).

Some of the on-the-street segments has been pure gold.

Oh god, that last guy realized what he was saying as it was coming out of his mouth and just couldn't stop it. Beautiful.

That "bruh." expression the interviewer gave was spot-on.

It's been interesting to see the correspondants change from "ha-ha, can you believe this guy? " to "Oh my god, I cannot believe this guy. "

Since they're phasing it out, here's the director's cut of the original Late Show opening

As I queue up John Oliver's latest vid on police accountability, I kinda wish I could watch these w/o the jokes. I just don't find him... funny. Hopefully someone as nutty as me will put in the pointless effort of providing non-joke edits.

I'm not sure that I ever realized this before, but now that you've put the thought in my head, I think I agree. In general, I think John Oliver is very funny, but I often find that the jokes he puts in these Youtube segments feel forced and formulaic, are sometimes painfully unfunny, and occasionally even undermine his point. It almost feels like watching Family Guy, in that it's always the same set-up, and I can see the gag coming a mile away and wish that it would just skip by it. "Oh, I see it's time for a joke now."

He'll never do it, because the whole point is to add some levity and makes these awful stories palatable, and this is ostensibly a humour show, but I think it would be a very brave and welcome choice to just bin the humour altogether.

He had something close to a nervous breakdown on tonight's show. He was funny, but... I think he channeled his audience's emotions a bit too hard.

Do you have a timestamp when he talks? (I'm clicking through anyways but maybe others want to know for the sake of expediency.)

The Daily Show went hard against some overt hypocrites.

Stephen Colbert gave a nice rundown of some news and also punched hard at these scumbags. Particularly, John McCain got called out like the spineless wimp he is.
