He was definitely around when Jon came back. I think he's just chilling in the Winterfell kennels.

I wasn't feeling this episode as much for whatever reason. It was... fine.

The ending in particular rubbed me the wrong way, because A. In a show that makes all of its death super horrifying and explicit, there's no sense of actual tension to Jaime sinking at the end, and I resent the show pretending as if there is; and B. Boy that water got deep fast. An armoured man got shoved of a horse on the shore so hard that he's now plummeting down into depths? Okay, sure.

Also, as far as Dany's actions this episode:
Jon: "Hey Dany, people won't like you if you burn down the city."
Dany: "Cool, I'll just burn all of their food instead."
??? I fail to see how this is better.

Obviously this isn't what actually happened, but Johnny and I both joked that it was, because those drawings of the white walkers are way too fucking good, and so obviously more detailed/higher quality than all of the other drawings in the cave.

Dammit, this show expects too much of my feeble memory.

Enhhhh. I feel like making Bronn an action hero is misusing him.

This is bar none my favourite running joke in this entire series. My face lit up like a Christmas tree to see Davos carrying the grammatical pedant torch.

It works because it reflects different things about the two men's personalities. With Stannis, it demonstrated his general impatience and distain for others' imperfections, however minor; for Davos, it speaks to his admiration for Stannis that he picked up such a small character tic, and also reflects his hard-fought journey to literacy late in life. A good detail.

It isn't. Despite the adoration she gets, she's shaky as far as rulers go, and there's always been the probability of her turning like her father.

Yeah, she's kind of at a knife-edge right now, and there's always been the prospect of her going the Mad Queen route... something that may end up being kept in check solely by the quality of people she's surrounded herself with. It was pretty clear from Jaime's reactions to the dragon strafing that her flame assault is not far removed from the atrocities he killed the king to prevent, and what he failed to be present to prevent Cersei from doing.

The original plan for humanely defeating Cersei was to blockade and siege Kings Landing until they gave up. A tactic that starves and beleaguers an enemy into submission. Taking out their supply line is then, not only pretty standard war tactics, but accelerates their original plan so that Kings Landing can't just hunker down for years on end. If you're OK with siege tactics, this isn't doing anything that's worse, it's just following through with your plan. Plus, you're only killing soldiers and not roasting a bunch of innocent civilians.

Arya, you may be super sneaky but Littlefinger's been doing his thing longer than you've been alive dude.

Next week is going to be ridiculous.

I thought it was a pretty mediocre episode, though Sam talking over what appeared to be Very Important Information was pretty amusing.

I would watch an entire series of this specific band of seven misfit heroes wandering the north, but sadly I don't think this adventure is going to go well.

I want an A-Team opening credits video for the group of flea bitten bastards at the end of the episode.

I would like for this to be the Stark kids pulling one over on the guy because fuck him already, but I'm not too hopeful.

I wouldn't. Not because I would be inherently opposed to the idea or that the idea doesn't excite me. But because knowing these writers, they're just completely incapable of writing dialog for more than two characters interacting with each other at any given time. Even then, the show has problems, but writing a scene with 3+ characters all talking at the same time is really hard to pull off, and I just don't have any faith it would be any good or come close to any lofty expectations.

This episode seemed super heavy on fan service. Danys and Jon interacting seemed like really hard pandering meant to stoke shippers. Same when Jorah came back and the entire end scenario quoted above where it seems like GoT All-Stars. I don't really know what to expect here from that. You'd think, based on pattern that they're setting up another colossal failure. But if I had to crawl into the minds of the showrunners, I'd bet they're under immense pressure from fandom to deliver something that'll get received well by show's end, so I doubt anything truly awful will happen, in lieu of showing some triumphant moments that fans can oooo and awww over.

Jon's the only one who comes back alive.

That spoiler had better not be something from the HBO leaks.

I mean, it does seem like a ludicrously stupid idea.

I hope so. They did not bring all of those characters back for nothing.

The last few episodes next episode leaked out onto the net so, stay guarded if you don't want spoilers.

It wasn't an actual spoiler, it was my guess at what happens.

Aye. I felt heavily pandered to for much of the episode's run length. Oh, they're bringing Gendry back, and he's smashing faces with a big fuck-off hammer? Okay.

The whole set-up for this little foray to the north just feels way too tidy.

BTW, I never had a chance to read it, but luckily someone transcribed what was in the letter Littlefinger meant for Arya to find.

Quote:
Robb, I write to you with a heavy heart. Our good king Robert is dead, killed from wounds he took in a boar hunt. Father has been charged with treason. He conspired with Robert’s brothers against my beloved Joffrey and tried to steal his throne. The Lannisters are treating me very well and provide me with every comfort. I beg you: come to King’s Landing, swear fealty to King Joffrey and prevent any strife between the great houses of Lannister and Stark.

Sansa

Sooo... this should be an interesting trip down memory lane for Sansa.
