You can just hang off the lane divider?
Thank god I'm not the only one who thinks that.

I mean, there's worse things to do than stare at Alexandra Park in a swimsuit for 90 minutes, but, shit, Royals is right there and (I presume) much funnier.

re: Bright - I feel old because Will is now old enough to plausibly play the Tommy Lee Jones role in Men in Black riffs.

Also, I was sure the elf girl was going to be Margot Robbie until I checked and it turns out it's Noomi Rapace. Because Robbie and Smith seem attached at the hip.

Which... somehow I haven't seen yet? It looks like garbage, but my kind of garbage. So does the stuck in a swimming pool movie. I am looking forward to forgetting to see that one too.

He's older now than James Avery was for the bulk of Fresh Prince.

That's fine if that's your thing but I generally prefer bikinis.

They are making a movie out of "Ready Player One" and Steven Spielberg is directing it why don't reward the author any more why

Pretty good trailer. I've forgotten who the author was or why he's bad

I haven't read it, but the main criticism in a nutshell seems to be that the whole enterprise is nothing more than a shallow pile of self-absorbed wall-to-wall nerd references. Which, from the excepts I've seen, seems pretty believable.

I was thinking of ways to run with a similar premise and came up with a young child living in a cartoon world who slowly realizes they are really in a medically induced coma, recovering from a brain injury, and the cartoon reality around them is a simulation designed to test how much their brain has recovered. When the child solves enough puzzles built around their memories of the real world, they'll wake up.

Of course one of the toons in that world will try to stop them from waking up (the toon would miss them too much), and there is also the question of whether they want to give up the comforting safe world in favor of the harsher, riskier real world.

This looks frightening, to me! (I'm pretty claustrophobic) I would find it a stressful experience to hang out on a lane divider for a weekend, especially if goddamn Tobin Bell is hovering above me, doing villainy.

And the secondary complaint is that if you strip out all the bits that are literally just lists of things from the '80s the author wants to share his opinion on, the remaining incredibly short story is just eyerollingly terrible, poorly thought out, and full of crappy tropes put out to pasture for a reason, like the obsessive nerd protagonist relentlessly stalking a girl until she falls in love with him.

I don't care if Spielberg directed it! It's a Ctrl-Alt-Del strip disguised as a technology-and-explosions picture

And I bet laundry money it won't even give us the courtesy of a moment so relentlessly mockable as loss.jpg.

Ready Player One is basically the American version of the Lucky Star anime: it might begin as something legit-seeming, but it quickly turns into a long series of increasingly more awkwardly-integrated nerd references, devolving into shameless self-promotion (in the case of LS, KyoAni playing up tons of Haruhi references and literally having the main characters take a field trip to visit the site of their office building; in the case of RPO this is just going to be Spielberg bragging about most of the rest of his CV isn't it?)

If I was handed a license to make the Super Smash Bros of my celebrated film catalog, I'd be all over that.

That looks more like a Hellbro.

(I was going to say Hellman but that doesn't look anything like mayo.)

I'm at work so I certainly can't watch a movie trailer right now, but I am presuming that "The Island of Dogs" is exactly where I want to live for the rest of my life.

Dear lord, that is wild.

However, Wes Anderson loves killing dogs in his movies. This thing is probably going to be endlessly heartbreaking.
