Mega Man 9 and three other games as a bonus is still pretty good.

Less good is the lack of a 3DS/Vita/Switch port.

I'm pretty sure basically no more games are going to get 3DS or Vita ports.

I would honestly pay twice the price just for portable 9 on the 3DS, but PC release means I can take that on my laptop whenever I want. I still need a better controller than the 360 pad, though, as trying to use that with the first Legacy Collection was horrible, and Joy2Key'ing an NES USB pad didn't feel... right.

Also I've never played MM8 and I'm looking forward to JUMP JUMP SLIDE SLIDE times, and maybe trying to play 10 again after putting some distance between it and 9 will help me enjoy it more.

Ideally this will include both versions of Mega Man 8. If not at launch, at least eventually. Like, patched in. Saturn's cutscenes are lower res, but you get two bonus fights with classic bosses and it's neat for comparison's sake 'cuz special effects differ between the two.

So which collection would include the Power Battle/Power Fighter arcade games?

It won't because one of those versions is for Saturn, and people are deathly afraid of emulating that system.

Getting this on a physical disc will be a great way to future-proof all 4 games. Yes, even MM8. But that makes it even more disappointing that MM & Bass is not in. If this would have been DLC for MMLC1, it would have been more understandable.

That would be hilariously petty. But also kind of illuminating.

Not so much afraid as enormously difficult, though I suppose they could license the code base for the existing good one (whose name I'm blanking on) and tweak it to fit. The core issue is that the Saturn is a frankenconsole like what people used to joke the Gamecube was.

Do we know who's developing this? This seems a bit outside Digital Eclipse's goals.

No we don't, and neither does Digital Eclipse.

At the very least, Frank Cifaldi has said that Digital Eclipse isn't involved. [e: beaten to the punch by Sami!]

I wonder how MM7 & MM8 will be presented, though, since Cifaldi happened to mention for the first game that Capcom appears not to want to deal with emulators -- and I'd assume that's at least for machines that aren't their own arcade systems. Maybe interpreters like with MMLC1? Ports, like how MM9 and MM10 are very likely to be done?

The quick trailer clip I saw of Mega Man swimming in MM8, though, at least indicates that there won't be any of the Saturn version's wavy scanline effects. That is, unless the dev team somehow crams in a reasonable facsimile between now and online-store approval time; the trailer mentions the clips not being of a finalized game.

Gotta save something to make Legacy Collection 3 look a little more appealing. Assuming they don't go for the Genesis compilation of 1-3 (which also has its own challenge) or the Game Boy games, MMLC3 would probably be spinoffs like Soccer and Mega Man but it's Mario Kart. And maybe the arcade games.

I had to google up old threads on this forum to remember my Mega Man 7 & 8 feelings.

7 is awful. Maybe the worst mainline Mega Man game. I don't even remember Wily being particularly hard, I just remember that the characters are too big, the enemies have too much health and that playing the game itself felt like a chore. And most of the music blows.

8 is also not good. But in a merely below average sense, rather than a "I hate playing this" sense.

In my opinion it's not even close to being awful, especially in a series with actually awful games coming out the ass. It's a welcome step-up from the monotony of the later NES games, big and colourful with tons of rewarding exploration and secrets.

Having said that - I completely understand people's problems with it. But personally it scratches my "weirdo platformer" itch!

Mmm, and this is no small sin. In fact I think it might be my least favourite bad move in all of gaming. Dull Euroshmups do it all the time and manage to make something with forced scrolling feel insufferably stop-start and plodding. A platformer can't even think about it.

(I'll run through it, of course, because Shade Man's theme forever.)

I have a lot of fondness for the 2D-maximalist style of MM8, even if the game itself has questionable level design and balance. MM7 had to compete with MMX, in a sense, and was greatly outclassed, but later MMX games took on a style very different from MM8 -- and neither was really as good as its original but I guess I can give more respect to the game trying to update the style of a game pushing on 20 than the often questionable-at-best MMX follow-ups.

The problem with MM7 is that MMX came out like, right alongside it, and X feels like it's faster, with better controls. It's actually pretty good!

That final Wily fight is also a lot easier if you use Coil Man's weapon. I used to think there were no good weapons for him and tried beating him with just the buster, but that thing wrecks him.

Capcom's a li'l extremely gun shy about releasing multiplatform titles on the Switch 'cuz they had trouble selling their games on the Wii and Wii U. The more platforms you release a game for, the more time/effort/money it takes, and the Nintendo platforms were the weakest link.

That's why they're testing the waters with an overpriced remake of Super Street Fighter II Turbo (sans the Turbo part), passing it off as a new iteration of the game by palette swapping Ryu and Ken ('cuz making actual new retraux fighters would be too hard rite u guise?) and adding a lame first person minigame and a color palette editor.

Given that anybody who's owned a new Sony or Microsoft console in the past 10 years (or hell, even a Wii or Wii U if you don't mind ports) has a plethora of Street Fighter options to choose from, I really don't know who Ultra Street Fighter II is for other than super fans or people really desperate for a Capcom fighter on their shiny new Switch.

I mean, 3DS had Super Street Fighter IV on it. As a launch title.

Didn't Resident Evil 4 Wii and Umbrella Chronicles sell several millions? I hope they didn't have those kinds of expectations for Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop.

But the WiiU must have really hurt them. Ducktales Remastered did fairly well I guess, but was that mostly on PS3 and Xbox?

MMX actually came out nearly two years before MM7. Hell, X2 had been out for the better part of a year.

The main series stuck to the NES for as long as it possibly could, so Mega Man X actually came out alongside Mega Man 6.

RE4 Wii and Umbrella Chronicles both sold over a million copies (Monster Hunter Tri too), but their other efforts like Zack & Wiki and Darkside Chronicles didn't do as well.

Capcom treated the Wii U to multiplatform stuff for a little while in the first year with games like Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and Resident Evil Revelations, but it was quick to bail on that sinking ship.
