The tastiest pop I've ever had is Vanilla Pepsi. Better vanilla flavor than Vanilla coke. They took it off the shelves (12pk, at least), and replaced it with Cherry Vanilla Pepsi. I don't know what to think.

I'll have to disagree. Pepsi Vanilla felt like they just doubled down on the vanilla and sweet and missed the nuanced flavor Coke offers.

If I'm not going to be able to find this in Canada, I might have to turn someone into a ghost... or something.

I want it, is what I'm saying. Quite badly.

The big thing about the Vanilla Pepsi was that it was the Throwback Pepsi made with real sugar vs. the HFCS used in Vanilla Coke and the Cherry Vanilla Pepsi that's out now. I think you can still get the VP at gas stations as 20oz but the cans are gone sadly.

I think you're right about that. They had them in stock in the smaller cans last time I looked too.

Thumbs up

Had some today. They're pretty nice. The regular Cola is sweeter than RC's Draft, but since it's using kola extract has a nice herbal taste. The Ginger Cola is spicy, somewhere between ginger ale and ginger beer levels.

Would buy again.

I'm surprised that you, the master of threadcromancy, had trouble finding the sodastream thread.

The secret to threadcromancy is getting other people to do the hard work of finding the threads.

I live in the USA and I sure can't find it.
Is there a certain chain that's really good at carrying Ecto Cooler?

Someone - Chris Sims on War Rocket Ajax I believe - gave me a hard sell on Cheerwine, so when I found some at the grocery store I tried it out. Its kind of gross.

I did a backflip when I saw they were selling Sundrop down here in GA years ago so of course I bought a bottle and cracked it open only to be so incredibly disappointed! Either they changed the formula for the stuff in the past 20 years or it was never the nectar of the gods I thought it was before we left NC.

Hey they have new 1893 Pepsi flavors: Blackcurrant and Citrus. I've got a can of each and I've tried the Citrus. It sure is Pepsi with grapefruit in it. I'm saving the Blackcurrant for tomorrow.

Huh, blackcurrant sounds like it *could* be delightful. Will look forward to future reports.

The blackcurrant one was interesting; like a somewhat savory cherry Pepsi. These is definitely fruit flavor in it, it adds some tartness, but no sweetness, but I am not at all familiar with what blackcurrant should taste like so it's hard to explain. I don't know that I like more than the regular 1893 Pepsi, but if probably take it over any of the other flavors.

It occurred to me while drinking it that these new flavors seem less designed as enjoyable cola drinks and more as mixers for alcoholic drinks. And they would likely be very good for that.

I just had the Citrus Pepsi! It ain't bad. What impressed me is the complexity of the flavors. It doesn't just taste like grapefruit... it's rindy, like a grapefruit peel. I've heard comparisons to Squirt but there's nothing subtle about Squirt... it's loud, brash, and artificial. This has more nuance. It starts out as cola but ends with the bittersweet taste of grapefruit. I wasn't sure what to think of it at first, but by the time I finished the can I had grown to like it.

No thanks. I don't know how to describe the taste of it.

Found some Green Rivers and drank them all. I remember the 50s diner used to have it. My Mom used to like those, too.

There was an old-timey soda shop in Steilacoom, WA where they would still serve you a phosphate, a soda made extra tart with a little shot of phosphoric acid (or maybe they strayed from the classic recipe and just used citric acid, I forget). Anyway, they also had Green River syrup, so I would get a Green River phosphate, and let me tell you that is a fine thing to drink.

Speaking of the fancy Pepsi, I had the blackcurrant and the ginger versions. Both were good and proper drinks, the blackcurrant tasting more like a traditional soda. The ginger was fine but I can see where someone would be turned off if you don't dig on ginger ale.
