Any best song sequence on Rumours that doesn't include Chain is inherently invalid. And since since it definitely isn't Songbird -> Chain, it's defo Chain -> You Make Loving Fun.

Pretty sure We Will Rock You followed by We Are The Champions is the greatest 1-2 hit combo in rock history. (Well, Sheer Heart Attack follows, so it's really more of a 1-2-3 knockout.)

Those two songs are so ubiquitous that they've lost all meaning to me. When I listen to News of the World, it feels like a commercial before the actual album starts.

There's a new New Pornographers album in a few weeks apparently. That's a pretty short wait for them. It doesn't have Dan Bejar, which is unfortunate. But the two songs released so far are firmly in their house style and prominently feature Neko.

New Kendrick Lamar album, DAMN., is out. It's very good, as Kendrick Lamar albums tend to be.

It's a tough listen to be sure, that new Mount Eerie. I've only heard it once in full, and I need to go back through a few times and really process it.

My mother-in-law passed away earlier this month. I got about two songs into that Mount Eerie album and said "nope; not right now." I definitely will listen to it all at some point... but I need some time.

New HAIM in July. The first single is interesting, sounds like sort of a "song in progress," but by design. I'm glad they're not just rehashing the debut, as much as I loved it.

Casper (1995) might be James Horner's most underrated score.

I see Arcade Fire is fully embracing the dance-y direction they toyed with on Reflektor. I have to admit that's not what I was hoping for— I'd really like to see them try something more striped down and immediate, like their amazing live shows— but I'm still down for this.

I hope this album has more Régine.

Satie being an influence on Metroid music is obvious in retrospect but not something I'd really thought about until now.

Eliane Radigue composed this wonderful thing in her late 60s. It takes a while to build, but it's definitely worth it.

I've been listening to Pearl Jam lately, and I've fallen under the spell of this guitar hook at the start of Rearviewmirror. It's intoxicating.

I'm currently listening to a new Lorde album with new Big Boi and Fleet Foxes albums queued up to play right after. This is a good night.

I like shuffling all the live albums in my itunes and imagining the show that all those artists would be playing together. The Decemberists leave the stage and out comes Paul McCartney...

Broken Social Scene has a new album out, Hug of Thunder, their first in seven years. Between their long hiatus, and that their last album wasn't even that great, I wasn't expect much. So it's to my surprise that it's actually really good. A worthy entry to their catalogue, for sure.

Also: it's weird to hear an unabashed indie rock album in 2017!
