Default Super Bomberman R

There's a New Bomberman game coming to the Nintendo Switch, March 3rd.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f98ZwgzYyig

The trailer is very brief, but it has a story campaign (with co-op mode) and traditional 8 player battle mode. Ok, so that sounds like just more of the same on paper, but the stages look pretty spiffy to me. There's more verticality and 3d terrain than the Bomberman games I remember. One multiplayer map had pits dividing the game area into islands connected by single tile bridges.

Here's an article with Konami's press release.

Now to figure out what the title means.

Konami finally got tired of sitting on Bomberman's remains, I guess.

I like the style, at least. I'm cautiously optimistic. Is it Super Bomberman R(evival), maybe? The 5 Dastardly Bombers from the SNES era are on the cover.

I was just talking a week ago with some friends about how much I missed Bomberman, so this was a pleasant surprise.

Also, 33rd Anniversary seems a little arbitrary, heh.

Oh goody, a convenient place for me to find my future victims opponents.

That uhhh sure is a full priced game you got there, Konami.

On the fence about getting physical or digital, because the box looks pretty great.

Are Switch games going back to that form factor for box designs? Same shape as Super Famicom boxes way back when.

Nice! I love the small switch logo, it really leaves a lot of space for art.

I like their new designs, too. Golem Bomber and Pretty Bomber in particular.

Seems so. I kinda like it? Though it's also seems a bit large for the size of the carts.

I imagine Mega Man 2 style, where a couple of janitors programmed it in the broom closet during their off time.

Get physical so you can bring it to get-togethers!

EDIT: ...I suppose you could also just bring your Switch. Sometimes I forget things.

Siliconera talks with Konami representative, has interesting tidbits. Mainly this:

Quote:
As for what led to its development, I was told that both Nintendo and Konami came together to help make it happen in the first place, and the team responsible is comprised of Konami’s internal team, which is comprised of former Hudson folk who worked on past Bomberman games, and Hexadrive.
Hexadrive is an independent studio and apparently they've basically worked exclusively on projects owned by Square-Enix, Nintendo and Capcom.

Looks like classic, no-gimmicks Bomberman. Good.

I'll probably get it at some point, but the buy-in at launch would be ridiculous if you want four players.

I wish they would've shown some of those cosmetic items they mentioned.

I don't recall previous games allowing a dead player to come back by killing another player, but maybe that's not new. Pretty cool either way, though.

I never said it, but that box art is excellent.

And I wish it had some puzzle platforming in there for single-player mode like the original N64 Bomberman. Oh well~ I believe older games had the ability to bomb players still on the map, but possibly not come back.

Ah, I wonder if they might include a JoyCon with the game, or maybe as a bundle with it in there? It seems like the perfect reason to have extra controllers. Maybe the game's actually $30 digital or something, but the $60 physical edition would get you a JoyCon (if it's $60). Probably not, haha, but that would be cool.

Let's wait with bated breath for a remix of Redial:

That's the Revenge Cart and has been around since I think Saturn Bomberman. I like it for larger groups or online play, because it keeps everyone engaged, as opposed to dying in the first ten seconds then having to wait while everyone else plays. It's also an interesting wrinkle if you are in the lead because when it's down to you and another player you have this extra outside interference. It gives the game a Smash Bros element of "anyone can win at any time".

Yeah, that's what I mean. I remember being able to throw bombs back into the level after dying (never heard the name Revenge Cart before, though), but I don't remember being able to come back to life by killing someone else, like in that video.
