Actually that would be fucking genius, since they established back in that horrible Guardians/X-Men cross-over pre-Secret Wars that Beast bringing the '60s X-Men to the present was, in fact, one of the things that broke time, leading to the end of the world.

I mean, it requires another retcon of the whole Phoenix mess, but at this point the whole story makes no goddamn sense, so whatever right.

In-continuity in-character acknowledgements of the timestream hash pulling out the original five is:
  • Maria Hill freaking out upon hearing this, ordering people around until she offhandedly, despondently mentions she once dreamed the X-Men blew up the moon
  • The Watcher silently, visibly judging Beast's nighttime thunderstorm breakdown where he's unable to deal with Cyclops' heel turn / fix his own time stream fuckery / still slowly dying from his own self-mutation-serum
  • Blue Marvel uses this as material for judging time as having been completely broken (still after Secret Wars), the consequences of trying to assess which accidentally produce the catalyst for that Civil War II nonsense

...

Probably the only good part of all this hot IvX nonsense is Kamala on a Secret Warriors team with Lunella and Karnak.

Oh, a new Generation X title is coming out. This time it's about Vampire Jubilee leading a bunch of "normal" mutants at school. And by "normal" it means mutants who aren't suited to being X-Men. And for some reason Bling is there, even though she was built to be an X-Men Tank.

Forgot Ms. Marvel's real name for a second and I was much more interested in that book as a result.

Is it mean of me to note that the writer of this arc is named Hopeless?

rules of thumb: when Ample Vigour and I talk in code, it's probably about boxing, MMA, or other forms of legitimate combat. when Sven and I talk in code, it's probably about pro wrestling.

"Kamala" is Ms. Marvel's real name, but it is also the name of mid-school wrestling legend Kamala.

In "get this fucking series out the door" news, Civil War II #8 will now have five (5) pencillers.

I'm sadder that youngsters apparently think Kamala isn't a name that causes an automatic double- /spit-take.

The start of the CW2 stuff is trickling on to Unlimited, and as usual the tie-ins are better than the main event.

Gods of War is just continuing the fantastic arc from Hercules' ongoing.

New Avengers is doing the same with the war between DaCosta, the Maker, and a certain faction within Shield. PS: narrative proximity to Squirrel Girl seems to be... Affecting the Maker.

Amazing Spider-Man is outstanding. It basically sets up what if Peter Parker knew the future, which is beautifully resonant with Pete's own story and with the Zodiac arc the book's just coming off.

I cannot recommend paying money for the privilege, but I recommend somehow finding a way to read the final issue of Civil War II.

it's a pointless fight scene, a deus ex machina, and a bunch of splash/double-splash pages serving to advertise future Marvel Comics Events.

there is also a Movie Coma.

On a scale of 1 to "the last time we did this, the story ended with Cap being tackled by a bunch of first responders"...?

Weighing it against the original Civil War is difficult. They're both incredibly stupid, but for different reasons.

How's this: Civil War I's ending was shitty because it leaped for absurd ambitions and did a mighty faceplant. Civil War II's ending is shitty because it's not trying at all.
