He's not a Happy Meal toy, just one of many off-model PVC figures produced under licence from Nintendo in the 80s'.

I may have said this before, but that Samus is really nice. I don't plan to buy any of these, but if I did it would be that one.

He does have elbows, but he's not entirely moveable in all directions.

I'll put this in my queue of things to take photos of. (Along with my festivus reveal, which I still need to do)

I wouldn't say he's that off-model...

About the figures, you can see/read up a little on the Mario ones here and here.

I still need to round out my set. I think I'm just missing Link, Little Mac, King Hippo, and Marios with the turnip and hammer.

Weird... you'd think I'd at least have one of the turnip ones, given I'm such a SMB2 fan.

Or maybe it is just a reflection of skill, like a player ranking for matchmaking.

Either way, looks pretty neat.

So it looks like it may be more difficult to collect a complete set of these than the Skylanders/Disney Infinity figures*. According to this financial report from Nintendo of Japan, some figures will have a limited production:

Quote:
The amiibo figure lineup for “Super Smash Bros.” will continue to be released even after this year-end sales season, and we hope that this will help to update store shelves. As store shelf space is limited, some amiibo will remain stocked on the shelves as staple choices while some will be limited-time offers which will cede their positions to new ones once they are sold out.
I'm not anticipating these being sold out anytime soon, since the adapter for compatibility with the 3DS version of Smash Bros. won't be out until next year. But I'm still a little bit paranoid so I went ahead and preordered Marth.

* this is excluding the rare color variants that Skylanders has; the regular figures are cheap and plentiful.

I suppose I would say that I am positing that recognizing the fact that Ness will presumably be a low run figure is as easy as simply saying the words.

In young children's educational programming, the phrase was often used to prompt an explanation of a simple concept or definition for the audience.

It is frequently co-opted by people to point out the obvious.

Thank you.

That wasn't me being sarcastic, or irritated or anything. I genuinely had no idea what it meant.

I have to say, so far, the way Nintendo has sold the amiibo concept doesn't appeal to me.

Like Smash Bros.' application of amiibo: leveling up characters that didn't need to be leveled up in the first place, and having to buy separate characters for $12.99+tax, even when the already-balanced characters are available for no additional cost beyond the game itself --

-- it just seems like we'd be paying significantly more for what amounts to significantly-worse game balance, in with unnecessary grinding to make those characters better.

[Also, I'd agree that the ad was... not a good one.]

it's not as simple as just leveling up, though - your amiibo learns and adapts until it becomes a highly skilled killing machine

and then you get to make it fight your friend's killing machine!

Or join you in battle... or take you all on and eff you all up equally, as I learned recently.

I'm seriously dying for Duck Hunt and ROB amiibo, and hope I can get them if they're made.

It's application to Smash is pretty underwhelming, but DLC that works in different games in different ways is itself a great idea. For the thirteen dollars spent on a (really nice) Link figure, you also get a new weapon in Hyrule Warriors and a new costume in MK8, AS WELL AS a pointless addition to a character I don't really use in Smash Brothers. Plus probably some other stuff down the line.

Again, I'm just buying the Kirby amiibo because I want to have a nice little Kirby figurine to sit on my entertainment unit. I have little interest in using it for anything other than upping the cuteness value of the room.

My brother is buying all the amiibos though, so I'm just going to have him truck them over to my place to unlock things as necessary.

I wonder what steps, if any, Nintendo is taking to prevent this scenario. I wouldn't be surprised at all if you needed to tap the Amiibo every single time you wanted to use the extra content.

Until I hear otherwise, I'm going to assume they'll work fine for unlocking multiple copies of incidental stuff in the games that aren't Smash.

Worst case scenario, I'll have to buy Link as well because the only amiibo bonus content I really care about is the spinner in Hyrule Warriors.

About that, has anyone seen pictures of the non-prototype figures? They don't look quite as nice.
