I believe that it is very specifically not the "Nintendo Wii". I could be remembering incorrectly, but I seem to remember there being talk of how the Wii was the first Nintendo console to not have Nintendo in its name.

So the press release said these are available for preorder today. Haven't seen any domestic listings yet. They've shown 14 figures, but only 12 will be in the first run: Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer. I think that leaves Pit and Zelda as the odd ones out?

Here we go!

It's a bit steep, but if one Amiibo works with multiple games, it's not quite as bad. I only want one anyway.

You might not like it, but that's competitive with Skylanders and Disney Infinity figures.

Really? I thought they were under $10.

In that case, I feel really bad for y'all who are parents!

Except that they haven't given any details about how they'll work with other games, and the amiibo features in Smash sound really dumb.

I would only call that competitive if they're on sale every other week like Skylanders are at the major retailers.

Just quick check of Amazon shows me that Skylanders toys are $10-15 depending on which version of the game they correspond to and the Disney Infinity ones are $12.99. So yeah, Nintendo's are competitive with the market. It is about what I expected. I was hoping for 10 and fearing 15, but I'll live with 13.

Do I want DK, Marth or Peach, though? I'm sure as hell not buying all of them.

Mostly I just want the Kirby amiibo so that I can have a little Kirby figurine sitting on my entertainment unit. But I can't say that I'm not just a little intrigued by the idea of feeding it leftover weapons and clothes to make it stronger.

Yeah, the figurines are much more detailed than I expected them to be so buying it just to be a figurine is kinda worth it.

Samus Power Armor figurine for just $13. Your argument is irrelevant.

(games? what games?)

I would never buy any of these things.

Wait they made a Snorlax*...how do I pre-order?

*They didn't actually make a Snorlax...yet.

I miiiight get Bowser amiibos at some point --

-- but at the same time, I just found a 6" poseable Bowser figure at a Toys R Us outlet store for like $16.50+tax, and it serves my purposes well. [Basically, one of the bigger reasons I buy figurines is to help out as visual references for future cosplay.]

It's a much bigger figure than what the amiibos would be, too.

Amiibo pre-orders finally went live on Amazon.ca (darned Canada, always behind the curve...), and my brother asked me to get him a Villager and Marth, which I was happy to do. Also, got myself a Kirby.

For what I've paid for regular Mario figures, this isn't too bad, given the added size, quality, and functionality. Still, I worry I won't be able to get them all...

That said, if they do one for R.O.B. (who I hope is in Smash), I will fight anyone standing between me and that figure on Day 1.

...be great if they had an "NES Color" version, though. Maybe they can do that through Club Nintendo or something...

Second wave includes Little Mac and Zelda.

I honestly don't care about using it in games, but that Zelda figure...

Gotta get the Little Mac one to go with my King Hippo from the 80s (Happy Meal toy maybe?), even if he's going to dwarf him.
