Not that I know of, unfortunately. Both my brother and I were looking to snag it, to scratch that Metroid itch, but were disappointed to learn that, for now, it's PS4-exclusive. I'm not buying a PS4 any time soon, unless I can get it for an absolutely spectacular deal. With the current state of the library, that would probably be a sub-$200 price, and that ain't happenin'.

Man, this feels more like a sequel to Metroid then most of Metroids actual sequels did.

Purchased, downloaded.
Now to see whether my excitement for this can beat my Bloodborne fever.

This looks great. But why is it that every next-gen game I want could easily run on last-gen hardware?

Because moving to simpler and more open architecture was the undocumented actual feature we got with the PS4/XBone.

Yeah, I'd be all over this if it wasn't for Bloodborne. Hopefully I still remember this exists once Bloodborne is over.

Destil described this as "Metroid but somehow with more Gieger" and that is a damn fine description of this game. The music and graphics are pitch perfect, and good lord the glitched/glitching physics are phenomenal. Some of the writing seems weak, but I don't think anyone is playing this for the plot.

Oh, I almost forgot! Some of the sound effects, specifically the enemy attacks, seem really well synced up to the background music. I don't know if this was intentional (it probably is?) but in either case, it's a really cool effect.

Well, to be fair to the script, most of the dialogue comes from a vast, alien computer who has taught itself English or else is coming from a guy who is WAY out of his depth

I collected the first few upgrades, and this game feels really great to play. This and Bloodborne don't have to be a dichotomy - I played this last night to come down from a tense boss fight and it was perfect.

Yeah, I initially thought the grammar was off, and then I realized that all the weird lines come from NPC's that have reasons for it.

Yeah, gahitsu hadn't seen me play the entire thing, but the weird dialog is pretty clearly a thing with how the computers aren't used to communicating with humans/in English.

Environment design and power-up handouts are excellent so far. Once you get the Hi Jump Boots and have to backtrack to where you saw a spot you couldn't get to all the platforming and combat really click with your new abilities, where before it was a bit of a slog.

Also I really like the combat. It's very Metroid in that it's more about carefully picking off creatures and less about frantic action (frantic action means you done screwed up) but still manages to be very engaging. Or you can use the drill and play it more like an action game.

L1 locks you in place to let you fire at odd spots, I don't know if that's documented anywhere in the game but it's super useful!

It feels like the whole internet is gushing about this game. I wish the guy who made it could clone himself so we'd get a Steam version faster. Or he could hire someone, I'm not picky

How does that Sony pub fund stuff work, anyway? Does it imply an exclusivity period for them?

I don't know but the fact that the game was built using Monogame means a PC, Mac, and Linux port are probably done already for the most part. Wii U and 3DS are in no way compatible, it would have to be a complete rewrite so I wouldn't bank on it. Also, the guys who did the Vita/PS3 port of FEZ posted a video a few weeks ago showing Monogame running natively on the Vita so I'd guess that's probably doable at some point as well.

Also, this is all guesswork though so take it with a grain of salt.

Oh! I actually wasn't talking about the computer grammar; I think it's a bit ham-fisted but that's not the issue. I think after the ... second boss?, there's this whole scene where Computer Lady is telling the protagonist that he's the only one who can save them, and he's all, I can't be the Chosen One! Lampshading Chosen One shenanigans is worse, IMHO, than just going with the original trope.

This is, however, a minor quibble and a personal annoyance, and again, if you're playing a Metroidvania for the plot or the writing, you ... I ... there's better game genres out there, son. There's so much to recommend this game, I was just mildly put off by this exchange.

I'll be playing XeoDrifter on my 3ds (or Steam) to hold me over until Axiom Verge makes its way.

I don't think it will hold me over long though.
