I've only seen 2017 on most sites, but Nintendo.com has "Spring 2017" on their site. So it could still up in the air, or possibly the Switch version is released first.

Update:

Beat Sonic Colors DS. Got the 7th Chaos Emerald and beat the secret boss.

Overall, loved the game even if I can't imagine going the 100% route (i.e. all red rings and S ranks). Probably the best portable Sonic I've played since Sonic Advance and Sonic Pocket Adventure.

Beat Sonic 3 as Tails on the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection for 360, and for the hell of it, then as Sonic only, with all emeralds. Shame they never included lock on for this version, though.

Sonic 3 is still rad as hell, of course, and having replayed Marble Garden recently, it's fine when you are familiar with it.

Took your advice. Muuuuuuuuch better.

Sonic also has a weirdly stiff posture and his eyes are quite staring straight ahead. It's great. It's like they made a Sonic game starring the Sonic knock-off called SONKO the Fasthog they found at a Dollar-store.

Triple Trouble was never released for the Master System anyway, but a fan made a port of it, so an unofficial one exists.

FYI: A slightly disappointing quirk with the Wii Virtual Console release of Sonic & Knuckles: Lock On works (with either Sonic 3, Sonic 2, or Sonic 1--for Blue Sphere), but it doesn't recognize your progress on an existing save in Sonic 3, and instead starts from scratch with all blank save files.

The downside: you'd have to play through Sonic 3 again as Tails/Sonic/Sonic & Tails to pick up where you left off. Ah well.

Sonic Advance is still pretty good, actually. However, it also feels really weird. I am at a loss to really describe it, but something about the feel, the way it scrolls, feels off. I guess it feels way more "Nintendo" than "Sega" is all I can say, which make sense considering the hardware. I guess it's partly because they hadn't really defined a style for the post-Genesis 2D games, but it still feels good in its own way. It's also got the insta-shield, which is something I've largely missed with the newer games.

Sonic Generations is still absolutely rad. At one time I would have said it's the only good 3D game, but now I feel that's not fair at all. It does, however, feels far smoother, control far better, than the rest of the series' 3D entries.

The first advance is lovely game but the characters do definitely have a bit more heft to them / gravity feels a bit stronger than it does in the Genesis games. Acceleration is slower but top speeds are definitely higher.

The third boss in Triple Trouble is apparently Scooter from The Muppet Show.If he had a snake for a body.

This is a fine video game.

It looks like absolutely an insane amount of work

Are those in the game? I don't remember them from the XBox 360 version but I only played a few hours of it there...

In the credits. Surprisingly, these (specific to the sega CD version) are not merely a low-res digitization of the source animations used in later ports

Sonic CD's animated scenes feature my favorite Sonic character/art design.

I knew Sonic CD's soundtrack was influenced by new jack swing, but I didn't realize the resemblance was so strong that songs could easily pass for Sonic CD tracks if you just removed the vocals.

Now I wish there were a fan game that did just that for its soundtrack. In the meantime, I'm glad Sonic Mania is returning to this sound.

I can only do one album at a time man!! But yeah, New Jack Swing is basically a common throughline in all the old Sonic games. Spring Yard Zone, Mystic Cave, most of Sonic 3/S&K if we're being honest, Sky High Zone, Aqua Planet Zone, and, heck, Labyrinth from Sonic 1 GG/SMS? (It's a bit odd that the later 8-bit games didn't keep up with it so much, but I guess Yayoi Wachi wasn't as huge a fan of swing music)

That facial fur...the ears...that pose like they're about to draw...a modern Fang the Sniper sans hat, maybe?

Hey look, some new footage of Sonic Forces which looks exactly like Generations, and thus extremely good! The music quality seems off though.

It's OK. Wish it did more to distinguish itself from Generations -- as much as I enjoyed the game, it's definitely true the physics system used in the "classic" stages felt underbaked due to how much behavior was scripted.

Plus, Emerald Hill Zone is RIGHT THERE YOU GUYS ARGHHHH
