I generally use "it is what it is" as a way to end a conversation. I'm also prone to using "because life", especially with my children.

"Dad, why do I have to clean my room again?"

"Because it's messy. Again."

"Yeah, but why do I have to clean it?"

"Because life, son. It is what it is."

And goddammit if a parent's purpose is not to irritate their children with non-answers, I don't what is.

"That's the way the cookie crumbles."

Edit: I should clarify that I don't hate this phrase; I prefer it to "it is what it is."

Whenever I see someone mixing up "horde" and "hoard", I frown for a moment while I pause to judge the vile offender, then resume reading.

Add to this: "passed" and "past."

That one I can kind of forgive, depending on context, as both can mean "a lot of something."

Yeah, but it wasn't a barbarian hoard that sacked Rome.

A dragon's hoard is a good thing to find.

A dragon horde is a bad thing to find.

There is, to be fair, a difference between being a master of the art form like Yogi and spewing nonplussed dialogue simply because all that stands between you and a bunch of groupies at the nearest club is a local reporter intent on getting a quote.

I think athletes would have better answers if reporters commonly asked them better questions.

The only answer to the question "Why did you/your team lose?" should always be either "Because they scored more [less in cases of things like golf] points than us and, like, the rules of the game are pretty clear that the team with more [less] points is the winner" or "The Bears are who we thought they were"

Once upon a time, two thieves from Etheria broke into a vault filled with gold. They were elated at first, but then they saw a symbol on the wall. "Oh, no!" they cried. "This hoard was collected by the Horde! It's Hordak's hoard, ak!"

Funny enough, He-Man really is the reason I learned at an early age what "horde" meant.

But, isn't falling down an idempotent operation?

This is neither a word nor a phrase, but writing the number 8 as two unconnected circles is punishable by death

"New TV series will be the Game of Thrones of [genre]"

It's about as trite as "the Dark Souls" of and, more often than not, just as inapplicable.
