Predator is, I believe, one of TT's consensus Loved Movies.

So read this oral history of the making of the movie and remind yourself that we nearly got something much different.

Warning: the actual story of JCVD's firing has about ten different versions.

I just finished watching Galavant and Disney really dropped the ball not casting Karen David as Jasmine for Aladdin. She would've been PERFECT!! Totally forgot she played her on OUAT. Why didn't they just taken their cating from the show? Why would have that been so bad?!

I can't imagine anyone here will care as even I can't be bothered to watch CBS anymore but I am fascinated with the decision to kill off the wife character on Kevin James's sitcom in between seasons to make room to bring in his wife from King of Queens, Leah Remini. That's some Henry VIII shit right there.

Somebody definitely told Erinn Hayes to go super broad and mug for the studio audience, which was not doing the show any favors, but I don't think the lead actress is the problem here.

Hopefully they dust off Jerry Stiller for a cameo.

Holy cow, that is morbid. Sounds like a train wreck. The kind you'd watch for fun.

It reminds me of the last season of Til Death where they knew they were cancelled so just went nuts. One character suddenly became aware that his wife had been recast 4 times over the course of the series and had to see a therapist about it.

I believe it translates to something like "Do you understand the manga?"

I think Bob's off-base here. The comparisons he makes to the Emoji Movie aren't exactly equivalent. The Transformers had a fanbase and a cartoon and comics and cultural cachet. The Smurfs and Lego had much of the same. Emoji's don't. There was no one clamouring for a movie about Emojis. There's no narrative or canon when it comes to Emojis. It seems to me that Sony just wanted to cram in as much advertising for apps and products into a single piece of media, so they hung a flimsy story about Emojis on it. It would be like if Coca-Cola made a movie about the secret life of soft drinks or something.

It's a lot like the Friedberg and Seltzer movies, where they're not so much a narrative as a vehicle to deliver cynical pop-cultural references, only the Emoji Movie delivers advertising disguised as narrative, and a lot of people could see through that.

Fair point. I would counter that the movie was aimed at the market Bob mentions, only to discover it doesn't exist. That said I think he's on point about the critical reaction.

So the upcoming Amazon/BBC co-production of Pratchett and Gaiman's Good Omens just cast Michael Sheen and David Tennant az Aziriphale and Crowley.

This... should be good times.

My mom was watching NBC evening news and the upbeat piece at the end was talking about this guy who provides scholarships. One of the recipients was talking about both her parents had been jailed and how that affected her, and then the narrator cuts in about how the philanthropist also understands this, "He was sentenced to 17 years after shooting an intruder who turned out to be a cop"

I dunno if this has been talked about in some other thread, but one of the things I did at DragonCon was go to Alton Brown's Good Eats reunion panel:

... where he announced "Return of the Eats" for 2018. Getting the old band back together. He'd been teasing it for a while lately, but this was the official word. So that's a thing that's happening.

He has been hinting at this for years. When he first teased it he made it seem like it would be done through Snapchat or Instagram or somehow like that.

Now it seems its just going to be on Food Network. Which is a bummer.

Well, it will be, but he did also specifically say that there was going to be an online streaming version (although I don't think he specified where) that will have more content than what gets broadcast on TV.

ABC Is Rebooting The Greatest American Hero With An Indian-American Woman As the Hero

Quote:
The reboot will be written and produced by Rachna Fruchbom, a co-producer and writer for Fresh Off the Boat who’s also written for Parks and Recreation. The project is under “put pilot commitment,” which means that ABC will at least air the pilot.
You have my attention, ABC.

It's been said this is from the beginning of the book when the kid is born, before it skips ahead 11 years, so it remains to be seen whether Crowley keeps that fabulous hair.
