Been watching way too much Star vs. the Forces of Evil the last couple weeks as they've been running marathons and my daughter will only put up with so much golf on the weekends. Turned into a really solid and funny show. Did not expect that from the first couple of episodes I watched back when it started.

Apparently, Powerpuff Girls got a full series DVD box set release not too long ago.

And apparently, my local Wal-Mart had it in its Summer Clearance racks.

And apparently it transitioned from being in that box to being on my DVD shelf.

Weird.

Nice. Though by the last couple seasons, I remember it feeling pretty forgettable. Anyway, get ready for puns. And Mojo Jojo.

Oh, man, we got to do a top 50 monkeys and apes list.

If one of either the nomination or results thread isn't titled (or riffing on) "Planet of the Apes", you're doing it wrong.

Well, obviously it would be titled "From Chimpan-A to Chimpan-Z".

Oh, hey, Matt Groening is doing a new show that sounds like Futurama with fantasy instead of sci-fi with lots of Futurama cast members in small roles. AND MATT BERRY! Sign me up.

Everything about this sounds fantastic except for the bits where I remember how absolutely terrible Bender's Game was.

To be fair, I don't think the problem came entirely down to the setting.

Crappy news: voice actress June Foray just died at the age of 99. She was in pretty much everything, from old Looney Tunes shorts to the Disney Afternoon cartoons that aired decades later. I was hoping she'd make it to one hundred, but alas.

R.I.P. June Foray.
It was always a treat to hear you in cartoons, TV, movies, you name it.

Help me out - I'm watching the Tiny Toons direct to video movie, and it's called "How I Spent My Vacation" - but I could swear it was called "How I Spent My SUMMER Vacation." Is this true, or am I mandala-ing?

I'm pretty sure it was advertised as Summer Vacation but the final release drops the Summer part. /shrug

Sez IMDB:

Quote:
The title of this film was originally How I Spent My Summer Vacation, but Warner Bros. shortened it so it would fit on the video cover.
Tiny Toons Wiki corroborates this, noting the same thing happened to It's a Wakko, Wakko, Wakko, Wakko Wish, which just became Wakko's Wish.

Yeah pretty sure my VHS had "Summer" in it.

That was a constantly replayed thing in my household. There are some only-Boomers-will-get-it jokes they throw out that I still don't really get, but will be stuck in my head for eternity.

I still love all the Happy World Land bits though.

OK, I'm well into season 2 of He-Man and... I kind of don't like Man-At-Arms. He gives Orko way too much shit for his spells messing up. For a show about positive lessons, he takes every opportunity he can to cut him down. If you are going to be a dick, do you know who is a better target. Cringer. That asshole spends every episode complaining and Man-At-Arms never gives him shit. I mean, I'd be pretty forgiving if it was just that Cringer is cowardly, but we won't stop complaining. There's only one episode where Cringer actually has to overcome his cowardice, but most of the time, he's just a drag on the team. So leave Orko alone and pick on Cringer, you jerk.

Also, I didn't remember Buzz-Off at all, but he sounds like a lost Homestar Runner character.

Holy fuck, I never Buzz-Off even appeared in the show or that he sounded like that.

You gotta love Lou Scheimer for doing almost everything but that voice could have used some QA/QC.

That movie is imo the best cartoon WB ever put out. It's just wall-to-wall hilarity.

Well, I haven't watched Tiny Toons since grade school, and as someone who watched a lot of Nick at Nite as a kid, I'm interested in what kind of joke they had about Morey Amsterdam.

It's when Buster and Babs are floating down the river - I can't find the clip on YouTube, but Buster tells Babs that she reminds him of someone, and she wonders who, and he's like "Morey Amsterdam," and she's like "MO-REY AMSTERDAM!?" and that's still the only thing I know about Morey Amsterdam, that Babs doesn't really enjoy being compared to him.
